During tough economic times, it may be more practical to buy a used car instead of a new one. Which used cars give the biggest bang for your buck? Here are some of the best used cars:
2007 Hyundai Elantra – With prices starting at $14,145, the brand new Elantra is a reasonable purchase. However, a 2007 model with similar quality can cost you just over $8,000. For a car that provides you 27 MPG, decent cabin space and a good finish, that is a real steal. Before you make a purchase, make sure that the 10-year, 100,000-mile power train warranty is transferred with the sale.
2007 Honda Accord – Rated as one of the most reliable cars around, you can hardly go wrong with a 2007 Honda Accord. True, the sticker price is $1,000 more than a second-hand Toyota Corolla. However, the Accord’s cost-of-ownership comes in at $100 less than the Corolla. Moreover, the Accord maintains a decent resale value.
2006 Mercury Montego – The Montego was produced from 2004-2007 as Ford’s sub-brand version of the Taurus. The Montego was criticized for being underpowered for such a large car. As a brand new car, it’s a difficult vehicle to recommend. Buying it as a used car, however, is a very different story. For a little less than $13,000, you can get a fully loaded 2006 Montego with all-wheel drive and continuously variable transmission. And the car still does have an impeccable safety rating.
2005 Honda CR-V – One of the most popular SUVs on the market, the 2005 version can be had at around $11,200, which is a bargain. It provides decent room for a small SUV, excellent dependability and boasts a respectable fuel economy.
