There are several ways to cut down your debt. With proper home savings planning, you can save up to hundreds of dollars a month without really scrimping on your lifestyle. Here are some personal home saving advice tips.
One-stop groceries
- Plan your trips. List down everything you need and stick to it. Impulse buying can take up to a third of your purchases. If your food expenses are peaking at $150, you can probably remove as much as $50 from it.
- Go with the seasons. Eat fruits that are in season. That way, they cost less overall, and you get variety in your diet. When in season, fruits can cost up to 50% less.
- Filter your water. You can invest in a water filter so you can tap your faucet for water, so to speak. With filter systems below $40 and replacement filters around $30, you can save an average of $10 a month in utility costs.
Transportation Savings
- Bicycles are good. If you can use a bicycle going to work, do so. It saves on gas money and keeps you fit.
- Own only as many cars as you need. If you family can rotate its trips around one car, then go for it. The fewer cars you have, the less payments, fuel expenses and maintenance costs you have to deal with. If you really need two cars, make sure that the second car is high on fuel economy – if your first one isn’t already.
- Use company incentives or the carpool. If your company has reimbursements, then sign up for them. This is better if you have a carpool with co-workers who live in the same area.
- Drive economically. Shift your driving habits to save on fuel and maintenance. Don’t drive aggressively, and keep under the speed limit. Always check your tires for proper inflation. Keep your car free of extra stuff. If you don’t need all that in the trunk, don’t keep it there.
