Many families find it hard to put decent food on the table. This is the reason why recent statistics show a dramatic increase in food stamps applications. Clearly, hunger is a growing problem.

College students face similar financial problems. With their resources focused more on school expenses like tuition, board and lodging, books and other supplies, many college students are finding it difficult to deal with food costs.

The good news is that college students can qualify for the food stamp program. Sadly, few students are aware of this.

Although the program doesn’t account for students, they aren’t automatically disqualified from food stamp eligibility. As long as they meet the requirements, they qualify as individuals.

When applying, you’ll have to provide certain details, such as your monthly income (if you have any) and the amount of money in your checking and savings accounts, among other things. The information you give will determine your eligibility and the amount you’re entitled to receive, should you qualify.
