The tough times have driven many Americans to apply for the food stamp program, now known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). According statistics, roughly one out of nine individuals are lining up for food stamps.

Given the growing demand, there are efforts to make food stamp applications more convenient. Soon, all states will have their SNAP application forms available online. People will be able to download the form, print it out and fill it up in the comforts of their home before heading to their local SNAP office for submission. Other states even allow individuals to apply for food stamps completely online. Here are the states that already have their application forms online:

Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nebraska, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin

Those who meet the SNAP guidelines will be issued a food stamp EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) Card. Much like debit cards, food stamp EBT cards can be used at compatible ATMs and PoS machines in participating stores.

Food stamp recipients will automatically get their benefits each month. Unused benefits will be carried over to the following month.
