Overeating is a growing problem in America. According to statistics, over 60% of Americans are overweight and over 30% are obese. In other words, two in three Americans are overweight and one in three is obese.

This staggering statistic must be taken seriously. Not only does overeating present a variety of health issues, it is also very costly and impractical. If you want to do yourself a favor, prevent yourself from overeating. Here are some tips to help stop overeating:

Drink a glass of ice-cold water before a meal – According to some dietary studies, the feeling of thirst and hunger is the same. In many cases, people eat more because they think they’re hungry even if they’re actually thirsty. Drinking a glass of water before mealtimes is a good way to minimize that “hungry feeling.”

Moreover, make it a point to drink at least two to three liters of water each day. This will help curb your cravings throughout the day

Eat the right appetizer – Eating apples, raw vegetables or a bowl of broth-based soup can help reduce your appetite for the main entrĂ©e. Moreover, your body takes in needed fiber.

Eat four to five ‘mini’-meals each day – Eating more meals at smaller quantities in a day helps you maintain healthy blood sugar levels and minimize your cravings. Ideally, you shouldn’t last more than five hours without eating. To make sure that your meals are smaller in quantity, it would be good to use a smaller plate when you eat your meals. In addition, you must ensure that the meals you prepare are healthy and balanced.

Consult relatives and friends when faced with problems – Emotional eating is one of the reasons why many people overeat. However, rather than head straight to the kitchen when a problem seems unbearable, make it a point to talk with someone you trust.
