housing-4There are certain pointers that can help you decide if a rental unit is good. It is in your best interest to have a move-in checklist to guide you through this process. Keep these in mind when looking for suitable rented property:

Pets - Pets always bring happiness to any household. But are pets allowed in the apartment? Ask the landlord if it is acceptable to have them.

Rooms - How big are the rooms? Know the size of the furniture the present tenants have. Take note of the stairwells, hallways and doors. Bring a tape measure or pace off to get a good idea of the room dimensions.

Parking - Is there parking? Where is it located? More importantly, is it safe to park the car in the neighborhood? This is very important for families with vehicles.

Insects - Check the corners, behind furniture and along baseboards for any critters or pests. If possible, visit the apartment at night. Look for any activity when the lights in the bathroom and kitchen are turned on.

Repair - Find out what else should be fixed in the house before moving in. If the plaster is cracking or falling apart and needs repair, check with your landlord on what the deal is with situations like that. If you have to shell out for such repairs, then moving in may be more expensive than you bargained for.

Do not just look at how beautiful the house is. If possible, take pictures of the apartment and its rooms from all angles. Discuss it with your family, and make sure that all concerns are addressed. Remember, this is going to be your home. You do not want to move in to an apartment and regret it later on.
