When dealing with real estate or mortgage issues, it pays to know certain things.
Real-estate agents
Fees are usually negotiable. Remember that in all things, it’s always wise to keep your options open, be it mortgage relief or modification – or the other way around, if you will buy or sell. Remember, it’s an unstable market still, and they will need all the business they can get.
You can sell your house on your own. But remember, what you’re paying the real estate agent for is the simple fact that they know all the ins and outs, some of which you may miss. For the same reason, you may also incorrectly price your house. Taking things into your own hands needs a lot of research.
Home inspectors and contractors
Inspectors can’t see everything. Find out what inspections really do mean in your local area – if you need a more in-depth inspection, you may have to pay more for it.
Clear the way. If you need to have an inspection, then it’s best to keep anything that can be knocked over out of the way. Inspectors will need to poke around.
The Devil is in the details. In all your dealings with anything that will modify your house, you should put everything down on paper. Are you not satisfied when you first meet? Get a second opinion or option for the project.
All results should be on paper, as well. You should have all details down, so that if it’s necessary to check on home value for mortgage modification and relief actions, or even foreclosure (let alone actual selling), there will be no hitches.
