other-expenses-1If you feel that you may be running out of options from official government channels and larger resource organizations for your personal financial standing, then the best bet is to think outside of the box.

Job hunting

There are many ways to look for jobs if you feel you have exhausted your contacts in your job hunt network.

Craigslist – This famous, simple and effective site can provide you with good leads for jobs in your area. However, do make sure that you check out your possible employer first. Craigslist provides opportunities, but are not necessarily strict with verification. Also, you may find better luck in Craigslist with part-time jobs or night-shift opportunities.

Non-Profit and Volunteer Organizations – If you feel that a job in your field is hard to get now, then you should consider work in non-profit and volunteer work organizations. Though there will be little pay (if at all), working in these places can give you a new skill set, and your range of contacts for your job network, or for more financial assistance, will grow wider. Examples of such organizations would be the likes of OpportunityKnocks, Young Nonprofit Professionals Network and Professionals for Non-Profits.

Direct assistance (financial and other)

Aside from the government, the next best are to go to your neighborhood’s or city’s local charity and financial assistance organizations. Keep in mind that many of these organizations can help you save money or provide services that can assist you, but not necessarily give you money.

Free legal services – Practically all communities will have at least one free legal service organization. You should visit them if you have trouble talking to your utility company, or if you feel that you are being given the runaround when it comes to your benefits.

Government-funded community development agencies – Every year, the government awards funds to agencies and organizations across the country, specifically for helping people in need in their local communities. These grantees are listed with the local government offices and at the Grants government website. There are two ways to approach such organizations: you can apply for assistance, or you can check to see if they have job openings. Do remember, though, that job openings in such organizations are dependent on the funding that they receive.

Traditional sources – You should consider traditional sources of assistance, such as the Salvation Army and neighborhood soup kitchens under religious or community institutions,
