cash-for-refrigerators-1Do you think you need new appliances? Even better, are you interested in investing in “green” technology? If you are, then the new “Cash for Appliance” state-based rebate programs are exactly what you need.

History

$300 million has been set aside in stimulus funds to pay for rebates that will be given to those who buy Energy Star compliant appliances.

State programs

Each state will have its own guidelines for how the rebate will work. For example, Nevada and New Mexico can claim $200 for a refrigerator, but in Connecticut, the same appliance will have a $50 rebate.

The budget for each state affects the implementation. Some states have multiple rollout dates, to pace the use of the allocated budget. Kansas, on the other hand, has already closed its program. Indiana has restricted the offer to Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) systems. Oregon will spend the funding on retrofitting about 1,800 homes of low-income families with energy-efficient heating systems.
