Now that the Health Care Bill has been passed and signed by the President, some may be wondering how long it will be before the changes take place. For seniors aged 65 years and over who are affected by the Medicare Drug coverage gap, the effects of the reform bill will be immediate.

Under the new healthcare law, eligible seniors will receive $250 rebate checks to help them with their medication.

Why this is important

Senior citizens did not receive their Cost of Living Adjustment for the first time since 1975. With medical costs rising, many seniors have struggled to keep up. The $250 rebate checks are meant to ease the financial burdens of senior citizens, helping them maintain and improve their health and well-being.

The younger generation gets a helping hand

Even fresh college graduates will be receiving immediate help from the healthcare reform bill. Under the new law, young adults are now eligible to stay on their parent’s healthcare plans until they turn 26. This extension is a huge help for fresh graduates who are struggling to look for work in a very dense job market and pay back their student loans.
