Eligible households can get government assistance to help pay for energy bills through the Illinois Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This program helps low-income families, the elderly, and people with disabilities pay for winter energy services. The amount you can receive will depend on your household income, family size, and the type of fuel used. Families of disabled people will be prioritized in the program.
LIHEAP is funded through the Department of Health and Human Services and the State of Illinois. State agencies administer the program locally and provide you with a one-time benefit. It is a first-come, first-served program; once the funds run out, you can no longer receive further benefits.
