There are two important issues in the House right now, and their details are important for all of us who are feeling the crisis crunch.
One movement is for extending unemployment benefits and reviving expiring tax cuts. The tax cuts are for the following:
- Teachers who buy school supplies with their own money
- Small businesses that pay employees called for military duty
- Restaurants and small businesses that spent for improvements
The unemployment extension is still up in the air, with qualification guidelines and duration of the extension still being hammered out.
Where the funding for all this will come from is still a looming question. However, many lawmakers agree that the bill must be passed, considering the economic hardships that many people are facing now.
Healthcare Expansion
While opponents have argued that the new healthcare expansion can a “welfare state” situation, the administration hopes that the bill will still pass. The following are some of the important details of the expansion:
- Medicare’s limitation on covering drug costs will be modified so that loopholes will be closed, allowing more people to get proper medication.
- Medicaid will have the full support of the federal government, with 100% expanded coverage, which will taper off to 90% by 2020.
- There will be mandatory health insurance in various forms across the board, from company-based coverage to independent programs set up through exchanges.
- Tax credits will be given to small businesses to help with healthcare coverage for their employees.
- A new seven-member group will advice the HHS secretary for health insurance rates.
