It’s important that your resume stands out, given the stiff competition. Here are some techniques to make your resume more appealing to hiring managers.
Edit the resume gap
Lulls in your resume, be it when you dropped out of the work force or had a short employment stint, don’t look good to hiring managers. This is why strategically editing your resume is important to get rid of these gaps.
If a lull happens within the year and before you were able to find another gig, it will be easy for you to downplay these details. The trick is to use years rather than months when listing the details of your career history.
Stick to the important assignments
In large corporations, it’s normal for a worker to be assigned from one role to another. Unless these roles highlight a diverse range of skills, it’s better to consolidate these assignments. However, do highlight key assignments that your potential employers may find interesting.
Explain more about the company
Unless you worked in corporate giants like Google, Microsoft, Kraft and IBM (among others), don’t expect the hiring manager to know your past company. Describe your past company so they get a clearer picture of your work experience.
Quantify your achievements
“Excellent communication skills” won’t impress any potential employer. Stating that you created an ad campaign that led to a 20% increase in sales, however, will draw more attention.
