The Washington State Worker Retraining program offer sources of financial aid to help dislocated and unemployed individuals learn a trade necessary for new employment. Through collaboration with the state’s community and technical colleges, these workers can get employer-focused training that ensures right matching with high-demand professions.
Who qualifies for Washington retraining programs?
The worker retraining prioritizes dislocated and unemployed workers of Washington State. To qualify, the participating college must ensure the student meets two of the following requirements:
• The individual is employed in an occupation identified as “not in demand” or those that are declining;
• The individual has not reached the “tipping point,” which is defined as one year of college credits (45 credits) plus any certificate or degree related to college work; and/or
• In order to remain employed, the individual needs to learn new skills. The worker must attest that the minimum qualifications for the position have changed and that the employee is unable to meet the new skill standard without retraining.
There are many resources available to help workers discover a new skill that leads to better-paying jobs this year. Sign up on the box at the right to find out more about retraining options available to you.
