In an earlier article, General School Savings Tips, we stressed the importance of a daily school savings plan for setting aside money for school expenses and even for a college savings plan for your kids. Tracking daily expenses is important when you are using a school savings plan.
This section will focus on food cost savings tips. The money you save on food everyday can be set aside for school expenses. Here are some food cost savings tips:
- Settle for ordinary coffee drinks – Cappuccino in the morning tastes so good. But spending for expensive coffee adds up. The $2 you save by settling for ordinary coffee is worth $500 a year.
- Eat out less – It’s nice to eat out with the family from time to time. These days, though, it’s more prudent not to frequent restaurants. You don’t need to be in a restaurant to bond with your family. Eating together at home will do just fine.
- Bring lunch to work – Some people think that bringing your own lunch to work is degrading. But at the end of the day, practicality is more important if you want to save money. In most cases, bringing your own lunch to work is less expensive than going to your favorite fast-food chain.
- Make a list – When shopping for food, always remember to make a list of the food items you buy, and make sure to stick to it. Statistics show people who shop without a list end up spending more than those who do.
